Geek Chic Accessories

People have been using discarded electronic components to create geek chic inspired accessories. Hard drives and other electronic components are filled with precious metals such as gold, silver, and copper and can make hip accessories. Some items that have been made using electronic components include Nikes, underwear, and hair clips.

Jewelry designer John Hardy's Balinese Compound

Jewelry designer John Hardy moved to Bali in 1975 to study Balinese jewelry with a master artisan whose ancestors were goldsmiths to the island's former royal courts.  By 1989, Hardy beleived he'd mastered enough of the traditional forms to start his own brand and that is how John Hardy came into business. He is known mainly for his intricate, silver hammered, woven pieces that are bold and beautiful. In 1990, Head designer Guy Bedarida joined the firm to develop the Bali Design studio, which employees commonly refer to as "The Compound." The island oasis consists of a series of sublimely beautiful open-air bamboo structures, where workers-mostly Balinese, both Muslim and Hindu- scatter about in printed sarongs and sandals. Aside from the lavish compound Hardy's owners, CEO Damien Dernoncourt and designer Guy Bedarida, developed for his company, Financial Times named John Hardy as one of the top 100 green businesses in the world. The Bali compound is not only completely self-sustaining but the company also has launched a project to offset the amount of CO2 it produces each year by planting bamboo trees in Nusa Penida, an island off the southeast coast of Bali. And in 2010, John Hardy launched a line for Saks Fifth Avenue in New York City called Hijau. The Hijau line includes bamboo-inspired stackable rings and bracelets, topaz-studded hoops and drop earrings, a pendant, a sizeable cuff priced from $295 to $3,000, and woven organic cotton cord bracelets in green, brown, or pink with a topaz-encrusted silver clasp.

Portable Light Project

Sheila Kennedy, an architect, travelled to a remote area of mexico and noticed how electrical power was non existent. She noticed that people who had no electricity were not able to work or study when the sun went down. That's when she came up with a brilliant resolution. She decided to design a bag that was both a light and a power source. The bag has a 13" by 4.75" flexible solar panel, rechargeable batteries, an HBLED light, and a USB port. The bag is meant to transform lives for people that live in energy deprived areas. In May, Kennedy collaborated with Elle and top designers to create 8 Portable Light Project Bags. Designers that Kennedy worked on Portable light project bags with were Tommy Hilfiger, Diane Von Furstenberg, Rogan, Lutz & Patmos, Vena Cava, and Loeffler Randall, which is featured below. Olsens Anonymous

I know I have been neglecting my blog horribly over the last few months. being away in europe and coming back to full time work are two reasons i have not written. also, i have not felt an inspiration/urge to write. But now i'm back at it again.

I stumbled across a really cool blog today, dedicated solely to the olsen twins. The blog, called Olsens Anonymous features tons of pictures of Mary Kate and Ashley in their daily outfits. It also features recent editorials the Olsen twins have shot. Here are a few pictures from a recent shoot both girls did for Fashion Magazine. They shot two seperate covers, one with Ashley and one with Mary Kate.
