Galliano> An enchanted Russian Fairy Tale was conjured at John Galliano, as models in lavishly embroidered folksy looks drifted through a laser-beam tunnel, glistening with sparkly snowflakes.

Trend: Bourgeois
Extravagant brocades, cascading ruffles. This is where ready-to-wear meets couture. It is designers at their most expressive.

Trend: The Left Bank
It's time to swot up on French film heroines. Jean Seberg, Catherine Deneuve and Brigitte Bardot. This is mainly a day time look that sports Breton stripes in sequins or cashmere, and mixing trophy separates around a monochrome palette.

trend: Fur
From shaggy chubbies to throw-on shrugs, embrace fur's new relaxed, sexy glamour. To offer some guidance, lustrous black goat hair is ideal partner to leather and sheer chiffon; Mongolian lambskin shrugs are just the ticket for playing with proportion; and speckled winter-white furs make a perfect pairing with tan accessories.

Trend: Knit Wit
Patterned or textured, sloppy or sleek: decorative knits return in multiple guises. The modern way of wearing these knits is loads of layers: legwarmers over leggings, miniskirts teamed with sweaters, all topped off with cardi-coats, snoods and jumbo scarves.

Trend: Draped
This look is about femininity and romance- a look best played out in slippery silks and shades of champagne, rose and silver-grey. Soft and feminine, the draped silhouette swings and sways, echoing the sensual lines of the female form in motion.

Trend: Velvet
This season, designers revitalized velvet with glossy colour; clever splicing and innovative burn-out techniques. There is something incredibly luxurious about velvet this season- the depth of colour, generous swathes of fabric and the way it feels against the skin.

Trend: The Hard Shoulder
Exaggerated shoulders are the ultimate in power dressing, from Balmain's sharp spikes to Balenciaga's softly puffed styles. Some have the soft, sweet curves of a pair of Mickey Mouse ears; others jut  out so dramatically, they look like they may need a scaffolding point.

Trend: Indigo
Summer's youthful brights have given way to a more sophisticated colour spectrum of cool blues and regal purples.

Trend: Leather
Designers have fashioned traditionally tough styles into something altogether softer (even biker jackets now seem to billow, thanks to gently shaped sleeves). There are prim dress coats at Louis Vuitton, knee-length skirt suits at MaxMara and Yves Saint Laurent, and the ladylike shift dresses just about everywhere else.

Trend: Dynasty
Designers have tuned into the glamour of the Eighties small screen, with cocktail extravaganzas in flamboyant silks and metallics.
Trend: Disco
Layer leggings with an off-the-shoulder dress or a wearable tulip skirt
