Athens-born designer Mary Katrantzou is making a wave in the fashion industry. Beginning her career as an interior designer, Katrantzou made the transition into the fashion world. She studied architecture at Central-Saint Martins in London and found inspiration in the photographs of Helmut Newton and Guy Bourdin. Having found her collection two years ago, Katranzou is on a roll. She just debuted her third topshop capsule collection this season, won the Swiss Textile Award last year, and recently released a perfume with Six Scents. Katy Perry, Nikki Minaj, and Vogue Nippon's fashion editor Anna Dello Russo are a few of Katrantzou's fans. For her Fall collection, Katrantzou imagined the woman as a connoisseur, incorporating objects of beauty such as Meissen porcelain, Faberge eggs, and vases. She blends surrealist designs with structure, kind of resembling the silhouettes in Balenciaga's Fall 2010 collection.
